Swimming only, diving was held previously. Meet was conducted Fri and Sat Feb 22 and 23. The girls teams were split into Division I and Division II. The Boys were all in Division I. Prelims for each of the 3 division in the morning between the top 24 swimmers in Ohio for each event. There were 3 heats of 8 in each stroke. The top sixteen came back at night. Championship heat and consolation heat. Standing room only at every session. a group of Parents got up at 4:00 AM to stand in line to make sure we had good seats as a group (meet started at 9:00 AM). St X, Upper Arlington, and St Charles fans were very vocal. UA supplied the “Village People” impersonators who led the whole arena in their version of the song “Y-M-C-A”. It is by far the most exciting swim meet you will ever attend. Fri night finals were kicked off by the Canton McKinley marching band, who were excellent. The team represented WHS extremely well. I was very proud of all of them. The girls finished 4th and the boys finished 24th (they finished 7th and 50th respectively in 07). A team dinner on Sat night capped off the weekend. By the time everyone arrived home on sun they were exhausted, parents and swimmers alike. A great experience.
