The meet started with a bang when the Medley relay team of Celia Oberhozer, Mariah Akinbi, Rachel Theiler, and Abby Gilbert, won 1^st place with a district and WHS record time of 1:49.25. More excitement came in the next event, the 200 free, when Laura Henkel, who was seeded 11th, finished 7^th. It continued in the third event when Claire Gilbert, seeded 10^th , finished 2^nd with a WHS record time in the 200 IM!! These events seemed to set the tone for the meet, and virtually every event saw WHS swimmers improve their seed time, and sometimes, place. Celia Oberholzer set new District and WHS records in the 100 back with a time of 56.51. At that point, with two events to go, three teams were in position to possibly win the meet: Oakwood 203, Wyoming 200, and Mariemont 222. WHS got 42 points from four swimmers in the next to last event, the 100 breast; Claire Gilbert 3rd (new WHS record), Rachel Theiler 7th, Mariah Akinbi 9th, and Laura Hinkel 12th. Now the score is Oakwood 223.5, Mariemont 237.5 and WHS 242. Mariemont was the number one seed in the last event, the 400 FR. If they win the relay, they win the meet. They win even if WHS (4th seed) comes in 2^nd. It turns out that Oakwood won the 400 FR with a record time, while Mariemont was second and WHS was 4^th . Final score: Oakwood 263, Mariemont 271.5, and WHS 272. Wow!!!! Wow!!! This was a fantastic TEAM victory. Mariemont had the quantity, but WHS, with smaller numbers, had high quality performances from virtually every member of the team.
