The WHS girls set 4 new WHS records but finished a disappointing 12th in team scores in spite of the record onslaught. Going in they were projected to finish 5th, but a 13th place finish by the 200 free relay team cost them 22 points from their fourth place seed and cost them a 6th or 7th place team finish. The relay team swam very well but the problem was that there was only 1.8 seconds between 2nd place and 10th place in prelims and 2.47 seconds between 2nd and 13th in the finals and the rest of the field had exceptional races. Celia Oberholzer had an outstanding meet with a 2nd place in back and 12th place in 50 free. Both were WHS records. The back stroke time of 55.96 in prelims broke her state record from last year. She also was a member of the 200 medley relay team of Oberholzer, Mariah Akinbi, Rachel Theiler and Abby Gibbons, which finished fourth. They swam a record breaking time of 1:47.33 in prelims. The fourth record was a 2:11.39 by Rachel Theiler in the 200 IM, again in the prelims. Claire Gilbert (15th 500 free), Mariah Akinbi (13th breast), Rachel Theiler (15th breast, 16th IM) all swam well in prelims and came back to swim in the consolation finals. A fifth team record was set at Districts by Mariah Akinbi in breast with a time of 1:06.31. Another great year Girls, we are all proud of you.
